Middle School Debate Takes 2nd at National Championship

The Chaminade Middle School Team Debate Team proved once again why they are one of the best during the Middle School Public Debate Program National Competition at Claremont McKenna College. The competition brought together 80 teams and 240 of the top debaters from around the country. After five rounds, 8th graders Brooklyn Gigliotti ’17, Spencer Levitt ’17, and Kevin Kubo ’17 earned a spot in the prestigious final round public debate against a team from Hunter College in New York.  Debating in front of an audience of more than 200 spectators, the teams argued on the topic “The President should have the authority to execute American Citizens without judicial oversight.” In one of the closest final debates ever, Chaminade finished 2nd.  Levitt and Kubo also earned top speaker awards. This is the highest finish at the National Championship for a Chaminade team, after placing 3rd in both 2010 and 2011.

The Debate Team will have the chance to defend their league title at the Golden State Debate League Championship on May 4.
