With seconds remaining on the game clock, junior kicker Ben Kreitenberg made a 27-yard field goal, putting Chaminade ahead of Serra, 38-35 and clinching the CIF-SS Western Division championship title. The December 6 game was tied with 8:19 left in the fourth, after Chaminade started the second half down 28-14.
The Eagles fought back in the second half, but with 5:21 left in the third quarter, Serra still led the game 35-21. Chaminade pulled within a touchdown after Dymond Lee ’16 caught a four-yard touchdown pass, and his brother Donovan Lee ’14 tied the game in the fourth quarter.
This win is Chaminade’s first CIF football title, and earned them a spot in the CIF State Division II South regional bowl game against Hart. The bowl game will be played on Saturday, December 14 at College of the Canyons. Kickoff for this rematch of a nonleague game played on September 6 is 7:30 p.m.
