Chaminade Girls’ Basketball Wins Open Division Title

In the final seconds of Saturday’s CIF Southern Section Open Division championship, Sophomore Isabel Newman grabbed a rebound, and hit a jumper to put Chaminade up 64-63 over Mater Dei. The Monarchs had less than four seconds left to try and win the game, but the Eagles prevailed, and Newman’s shot was the game winner.

Now champions of the Southern Section Open Division, the girls are the No. 1 seed in CIF state playoffs. They face L.A. City Section runner-up, Narbonne on March 13, at home. Tipoff is at 7:00 p.m.

Chaminade’s boys team also received a bid to Division IV State playoffs, and will host the Los Angeles Center for Enriched Studies at home on March 11. Tipoff is at 7:00 p.m.

Tickets for both games are $9 for adults and $5 for students and children. The games will be played at the Uribe Center on Chaminade College Preparatory’s West Hills campus.
