The following message from Chaminade College Preparatory’s President, Robert Webb was emailed this afternoon to current families.
Dear Chaminade Family,
Thank you to all students, parents, teachers and staff for your response to the events presented today after the sudden closing of the L.A. Unified School District. The decision to close the middle school early and to curtail all afternoon activities at the high school was not made lightly. However, based upon the information available at that time, from the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) and others, we decided to err on the side of caution for the safety of all. Again, the level of cooperation by all members of the Chaminade family was commendable and made a difficult situation run as smoothly as possible.
Our plan for tomorrow, Wednesday, December 16 is to resume normal operations on both campuses. Therefore, semester exams will proceed as previously scheduled at both the middle school and high school. Also, bus service will resume as scheduled. This decision is based in part upon current information provided to us by the LAPD and extra security measures that we have implemented. These measures include increased, around-the-clock security guards on both campuses for the remainder of this week. Additionally, we have had both campuses inspected by Impact Canine Solutions. These measures were taken despite the fact we have been informed that neither Chaminade, nor any other private school, was a target in this school-based threat.
We will continue to closely monitor the situation and, as always, the safety of your child remains our top priority. We will provide an update on our website by 6:30 a.m. tomorrow, Wednesday, December 16. Please make sure to check this update.
Your gracious cooperation and continued trust in us at times like this is greatly appreciated.
