Chaminade Acquires Shopping Center Adjacent to West Hills Campus

The president of Chaminade College Preparatory announced today that it has acquired the shopping center adjacent to its high school campus in West Hills. The property is one of the last significant parcels of nearby land that has not been developed for residential use.

“The Saticoy property is a rare find for our school community,” said Chaminade President Robert S. Webb. “Over the past several years, our board of directors and administration have focused on our financial health in the event that an opportunity like this would present itself.”

As part of the purchase, Chaminade acquired 23211-23233 Saticoy Street and 7629 Woodlake Avenue from West Hills Market, LLC and Leimert/Saticoy, L.P. The 4.8-acre shopping center currently houses 16 businesses, including Field’s Market. Chaminade has not yet formalized plans for the future of the shopping center, but it intends to consider possibilities as part of its soon-to-launch master plan process.

“The acquisition of this property allows us to think boldly and creatively about our future facility and programmatic needs of our students,” said Webb. “We look forward to hearing from the community—faculty, staff, parents, students, alumni, neighbors, and others—about how this property can factor into our educational future and neighborhood.  In concert with our new strategic plan, we will envision our school on a bigger canvas of opportunity and dreams as we continue to carry out our Catholic, Marianist mission.”

As part of the master plan process, Chaminade intends to solicit input from a wide-range of stakeholders. Through the process, Chaminade seeks to identify the most beneficial use for the property moving forward.

  1. Maybe now Chaminade can finally build a competition pool and properly (and sincerely) support the Chaminade swim team and maybe start a water polo team? Yes, there is a Chaminade Swim Team. Currently, the swim team meets at the CSUN pool, daily at 5:30am, practices till 7am and then has to high-tail it through valley rush hour traffic to make it to Chaminade by 8am. Too late for my son and the other hardworking juniors and seniors on this team, but maybe for future generations of aspiring Chaminade swimmers. And then one day, Chaminade will be competitive against the likes of Loyola and Harvard Westlake.

  2. We have been hearing this rumor for a few years. I am happy to know that it has finally come to fruition. Some of the questions that will arise, will be regarding the future of the tenants at the shopping center, including Fields Market.

I would imagine, that part of that master plan process, will be to consider the viability of preserving some income producing commercial spaces, that will be leased out to the same merchants or other tenants.

  3. Maybe they could make a bridge and competitive pool so that we can use it for swimming or water polo or maybe even a dance swim team? Who know’s all the possibilities they can do with this land. Its four acres and that”s a good amount of size. They could also make a bridge to go to the stores and lock them at 8:10 for anyone that is late.

  4. Yessssssss! Agreeeeeeeeeee! We need a pool. I have been on the team for four years, It is a struggle to leave really early to the practice and come back from a traffic heavy spot.
