On April 13, Chaminade hosted the California State High School Fencing Championships in the Uribe Sports Center on the West Hills campus. Chaminade’s fencing team had a very impressive showing, with five of our fencers finishing in the top four in their events. In the men’s foil competition, Chaminade dominated. Matt Carter ’14 and Jacob Lind ’16 finished tied for third and Parker Williams ’16 finished second. In the men’s epee event, Jacob Lind finished second. After all three men’s events were completed, and the team scores were tallied, Chaminade’s men’s fencing team was named State Champions, beating the second place high school by a score of 128-103.
In the women’s division, Dylan Sarish ’15 finished third in women’s epee, and Jessica Fint ’16 finished third in women’s saber, leading the Chaminade women’s team to an overall third place finish in the state.
On March 9, the Chaminade fencing traveled to Victorville, California to compete in the Victor Valley High School Fencing Tournament. The Eagles dominated the tournament taking first place in every event, except one. The Eagles finished first in Varsity A Men’s Foil, Varsity A Women’s Foil, Varsity B Men’s Foil, JV Men’s Foil, and Middle School Girl’s Foil. The middle school boy’s foil team finished third.
In addition, Chaminade’s fencing team (13-14) took home the Southern California Scholastic Fencing League Overall 6-Weapon Trophy, beating Harvard Westlake by just one point. The trophy goes to the best overall team each season, tallying all team results from men’s foil, men’s epee, men’s saber, women’s foil, women’s epee and women’s saber events. Last year the Eagles were co-champions with Victor Valley High School.
On Sunday, April 13, Chaminade will host the California State Fencing Championship, in the Uribe Sports Center on the West Hills campus.

Freshman Jacob Lind ‘16 had an amazing day, finishing 8-0 in foil and becoming the California High School Foil Champion! Jacob also fenced in the saber event and finished 2nd, almost becoming a two-weapon state champion. The last Chaminade freshman to win the State Championships was Coach Derek Snyder in 1998. Other notable results came from team co-captain, Matt Carter ‘14, who finished 3rd in men’s epee and 5th in men’s foil. Gabby Najm ’14 finished 3rd and Jessica Fint ’16 finished 5th in women’s foil, and Parker Williams ’16 finished 7th in foil. Congratulations Chaminade fencers and coaches for a great season.
