The Volunteer Mixers Came and Went but You Can Still Sign-up

IMG_1068Volunteer Mixers have become part of the back-to-school tradition at Chaminade College Preparatory, and last week more than 200 parents attended one both events.

The mixers are an opportunity for new and returning parents to learn more about the different ways they can volunteer at the school. Representatives from various committees were on-hand to answer questions and encourage people to sign-up for an activity.

Thanks to the help of parents, grandparents, alumni, and friends, Chaminade has a robust group of supporters who help to plan events such as the Golf Tournament, Holly Berry, and Chaminade Gala. In addition, volunteers work with Chaminade Boosters to sell uniforms and spirit wear, as well as to cook and sell food at various sporting events throughout the year. Beyond events and Boosters, parents can also help with specific groups such as Robotics, the Performing Arts, The Chaminade Fund, and more.

There are always many opportunities available for all levels of time commitment. For more information on volunteering, please contact the Advancement Office at (818) 360-0615. The parent volunteer form can be filled out and returned to the Advancement Office on the Chatsworth campus.

Welcome to the 2016-2017 School Year

Dear Chaminade Families,

It is wonderful to see students and teachers walking and talking in our hallways again, and it gives me great joy to welcome all our families to a new school year.

While I’d like to be mindful and enjoy being in the first-day-of-school-moment, I can’t help but look forward to the next 10 months. In keeping with tradition, we celebrate one of the five Characteristics of Marianist Education, and this year we set our focus on all that it means for Chaminade College Preparatory to educate in the family spirit. We also join with the Marianist Province of the United States to celebrate the Marianist bicentennial.

Every year of I am surprised and amazed by our students and all that they accomplish. They are truly God’s masterpiece. I also see the challenges they face, but I know that as a faculty, we will support your children. We will empathize, listen, love, pray, and observe.

As we go through the 180 days which make up a Chaminade school year, there will be a great deal of news and stories to share. I invite you to keep up with our 2,030 students, and join us online, and on social media:

I look forward to meeting you at a Chaminade event in the near future! In addition to the various concerts and competitions parents always support, you are always welcome to attend Mass at either of our campuses. Thank you for joining us.

God Bless and Go Eagles!

How to Volunteer at Chaminade

Chaminade C -on Blue- BoostersVolunteers are Chaminade’s superheroes, and every year, hundreds of parents contribute thousands of hours to the school. There are many opportunities to lend a hand, as well as different levels of time commitment.

Chaminade relies on parents, grandparents, alumni, and friends who work in the library, cook burgers at athletic events, plan the Gala, assist with The Chaminade Fund, serve as House Parents, and much more.

To help parents navigate the activities and events which need help, Chaminade will host two volunteer mixers in August:

Tuesday, August 16, 2016
6:00 to 8:00 p.m.
Wine and Cheese Reception
Tutor Center Amphitheater
West Hills Campus

Thursday, August 18, 2016
8:00 to 10:00 a.m.

Coffee and Continental Breakfast
Oak Room, Chaminade Hall
Chatsworth Campus

The mixers offer parents the opportunity to meet committee chairs of special events, find out what volunteer opportunities are available, meet other parents, grandparents, and Chaminade’s Advancement team. Both events are open to all parents, and are not campus specific, so whether your child is in middle or high school, you are welcome to attend either event! To help with a head count for food and drinks, please RSVP to one of the mixers by August 12.

If you can’t make it  on August 16 or 18, and need more information, please contact the Advancement Office at (818) 360-0615. In addition, please take a moment to fill out the parent volunteer form and return it to the Advancement Office.

Campus Ministry Renovation Underway

Fr. ChaminadeThe renovation and revitalization of Chaminade College Preparatory’s Campus Ministry spaces at both campuses has begun.

At the middle school, Campus Ministry will move from its cozy, tucked away place behind the Student Center to a full classroom next to the library. Its new home will be at the center of activity, a fitting location for the heartbeat of Chaminade.

Campus Ministry at the high school will remain in is current location, but will be updated and refreshed. The well-loved area will be repainted, and new furniture and flooring will be installed. In addition, work and collaboration spaces will be added, along with new media equipment, and better storage.

These summer projects were made possible with the help of Chaminade Gala. Fund-a-need during Magical Journey raised more than $75,000 for the school’s Campus Ministry renovation project.
