After becoming the first area program to win the Masters title in the boys’ 4 x 400 relay May 25, Chaminade is attempting to secure an even bigger prize at the state meet.
No local boys’ track and field program has won a 4 x 400 state title, but the Eagles are the top qualifiers with their state-leading mark of 3:15.28.
Kennedy captured girls’ 4 x 400 state titles in 1980 and ’81, led by sisters Sherri and Denean Howard.
Senior Jared Dinowitz has sacrificed prom and graduation commitments to continue to compete for Chaminade, which boasts talented juniors Isaiah Bernard, Elijah Dunston and Terrell Newby.
Harry Brockington teams with Bernard, Dunston and Newby on the Eagles’ 4x 100 relay, as Chaminade joins Taft as the area’s only boys’ track and field program to have teams qualify for state prelims in both relays.
Oaks Christian and Taft are the only local girls’ programs to have both relays advance to state.
