The more demanding the challenge, it seemed like the better De Los Santos performed under pressure, especially in the postseason.
After capturing the Mission League title with a 36-hole total of 4-under 140, De Los Santos rose to the occasion in playoffs at both the Northern Individual regional at River Ridge’s Vineyard Course, outlasting Westlake’s Spencer Soosman in five extra holes to secure second behind Rio Mesa’s Kyle McLay following a four-way tie for first at 72.
De Los Santos delivered again after shooting 71 at the Southern Section final at La Purisima Golf Course, prevailing in a three-golfer playoff for third, highlighted by a 15-foot chip to save par on the 18th and advance to the second playoff hole, where he sank a clutch par putt to eliminate Fountain Valley’s Andre Vu.
Although the Cal Poly San Luis Obispo signee shot 72 to tie for 17th at the CIF/SCGA regional tournament at Brookside Golf Course, De Los Santos fell a stroke short of competing in a playoff to secure his first state berth.
