Eagles Win CIF Division II State Championship

For the first time in Chaminade College Preparatory’s history, the Varsity Football team played for and won a CIF State championship title. With a 41-9 win over Enterprise (Redding), Chaminade is the CIF State Division II champion.

The victory caps off a great season for the Eagles, who went 8-2 in the regular season; captured the CIF-SS Western Division II championship on a December 6 game against Serra; and beat Hart, 28-10, on December 14 in the CIF State Division II South regional bowl game.

Chaminade Advances to CIF State Championship

On Saturday December 14, Chaminade beat Hart 28-10 at the College of the Canyons, and will move on to its first CIF State Division II Championship bowl game.

Donovan Lee ’14 had 63 yards rushing, a two-point conversion run and a 41-yard punt return. Quarterback Brad Kaaya ’14 completed eight of 16 passes for 87 yards. Brayden Lenius ’14 made a 32-yard touchdown catch from Kaaya, and Cory Watkins ’14 rushed for 109 yards and two touchdowns. Keiran Yancy ’14 clinched the victory on a 21-yard run late in the fourth quarter.

Chaminade faces the undefeated Enterprise (Redding) for the CIF Division II State title on Saturday, December 21, at 4:00 p.m. at the StubHub Center in Carson.

Chaminade (12-2) is ranked fifth in California by Cal-Hi Sports.

MS Robotics Wins Excellence Award at CAMS VEX Tournament

Team 83The middle school Eagle Engineers, Team 83, won the prestigious Excellence Award at the CAMS VEX Robotics Tournament held in Carson on Saturday, December 7.

This is Team 83’s third major award in two tournaments, over the past two weeks. The Excellence Award is given to the team with the best overall performance during the tournament. The team was chosen out of 31 other local middle school teams. Judges specifically cited Team 83 for their:

  1. Documentation of excellent engineering principles in their notebook
  2. Providing pictures showing evidence of teamwork.
  3. Displaying impressive project management in having each member with assigned tasks and roles
  4. Excellent robot design with unique features like dual-linear slider scissor lift, hanging capabilities and a switch to change from one program to another.
  5. A robot that performed very well during the competition.

Girls’ Basketball Beats Etiwanda

In a nonleague game on Tuesday night, Chaminade’s Girls’ Varsity Basketball team held off a fourth quarter rally by Etiwanda to win 49-44. The Eagles are currently 4-1 and face Valencia on Saturday, December 14. For more on the win against Etiwanda, please visit the Los Angeles Daily News.

Eagles Win CIF-SS Western Division Football Title

With seconds remaining on the game clock, junior kicker Ben Kreitenberg made a 27-yard field goal, putting Chaminade ahead of Serra, 38-35 and clinching the CIF-SS Western Division championship title. The December 6 game was tied with 8:19 left in the fourth, after Chaminade started the second half down 28-14.

The Eagles fought back in the second half, but with 5:21 left in the third quarter, Serra still led the game 35-21. Chaminade pulled within a touchdown after Dymond Lee ’16 caught a four-yard touchdown pass, and his brother Donovan Lee ’14 tied the game in the fourth quarter.

This win is Chaminade’s first CIF football title, and earned them a spot in the CIF State Division II South regional bowl game against Hart. The bowl game will be played on Saturday, December 14 at College of the Canyons. Kickoff for this rematch of a nonleague game played on September 6 is 7:30 p.m.
