On March 26, more than 380 miles away at the Sleep Train Arena in Sacramento, Chaminade Girls’ Basketball faced Miramonte High School in the CIF State Open Division championship game. The Eagles came away with an 80-71 victory and the State Open Division title.
Senior Leona Odom finished her Chaminade career with a 33-point, 15-rebound, 4-assist, 4-steal game; and set an Open Division record for points in a single game. Meanwhile, Senior Valerie Higgins wrapped up her Eagle career with 16 points, seven rebounds, eight assists, four steals, and four blocks. Junior Melissa Wright had 15 points, 11 rebounds, and four steals.
This is Chaminade’s second state title in girls’ basketball in three years. In 2014, the girls won the CIF State Division II championship.
